Job summary

The Department of Justice and Community Safety in Victoria is seeking a casual Payroll Officer to process fortnightly pay and benefits for employees across the department. You will provide accurate advice, maintain payroll records and help resolve payroll queries, while supporting deadlines and improving processes.

You should have experience in payroll or HR services, preferably in government, with CHRIS21 or similar systems, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll or human resources services, ideally in government.
• Experience in high-volume transactional payroll.
• Ability to interpret policies and legislation and provide clear advice.
• Strong communication, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Process accurate fortnightly payroll transactions, including new starters, timesheets and terminations.
• Maintain employee and payroll records and manage salary overpayments.
• Prepare payroll reports and provide advice on pay and employment conditions.
• Provide timely customer service and help employees understand payroll matters.
• Support payroll deadlines, improve processes and keep complete records.
