Job summary

NSW Department of Communities and Justice is recruiting for a Casual Correctional Officer at the Metropolitan Women’s Cluster. No experience required and the role is casual/temporary.

You will supervise inmates, conduct searches, and support safety and rehabilitation, with duties across living and work areas. A valid WWCC is required, and you will have the opportunity to complete a Certificate III in Correctional Practise.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18 years old
• Current Valid Drivers Licence
• Australia or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practise
• Meet the medical standards to be a correctional officer and have reasonable level of fitness

Responsibilities

• Carry out daily tasks and duties following legislation and policies to ensure safety, security, and rehabilitation of inmates
• Perform daily accountability routines including muster, head checks, and ongoing observation of offenders
• Conduct searches and other detection activities to find contraband and monitor inmates/offenders
• Manage inmates' requests for services or escalate them as needed
• Supervise offender activities in designated zones to ensure fair, safe practice
