Eastgate on the Range Motel in Toowoomba is seeking a casual chef to join as second chef, covering the Head Chef's days off. The role offers approximately 2–3 days per week, with Mondays essential and flexible start times.

You will prepare and cook a varied menu, manage stock, uphold food safety, and work autonomously while collaborating with the team in a 4-star, 39-room establishment with an on-site restaurant and bar.

Qualifications

• Certificate required: Cert III in Commercial Cookery, and a Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
• Ability to manage time and stay organised in a busy kitchen.
• Strong teamwork and clear communication with the team.
• Solid understanding of allergen management and food safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook dishes using fresh and frozen ingredients, maintaining high standards.
• Work autonomously in a solo chef role while supporting service in peak times.
• Practise stock rotation and minimise wastage.
• Complete mise en place before service, with start around 4:30 pm.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and regulatory compliance.
• Follow allergen management procedures.
• Manage a large menu of over 30 items.
• Demonstrate time management and work efficiently under pressure.
• Prioritise between room service orders and guests dining in the restaurant.
• Collaborate with the wider team and communicate effectively.

Eastgate on the Range Motel is a 4-star, 39-room motel in a prime hilltop location in Toowoomba, featuring an on-site restaurant and bar with seating for over 36 guests. Our dinner service includes à la carte dining and room service, operating from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We are looking for a casual chef to join our team as a second chef, covering the Head Chef's days off. This role offers approximately 2–3 days per week, with Mondays essential, and flexibility around the remaining days and start times. This position could suit someone looking for a second job or a parent looking to re-enter the workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and cook dishes using a variety of fresh and frozen ingredients, maintaining a consistent, high standard.
• Work autonomously and confidently in a solo chef role.
• Practise effective stock rotation and minimise wastage.
• Complete mise en place before service, with an average start time of 4:30 pm.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and regulatory compliance.
• Follow food safety procedures, with a strong emphasis on allergen management.

About you
