Matthew Flinders Anglican College on the Sunshine Coast seeks an experienced Careers and Future Pathways Advisor to commence in 2027. This full-time promotional role combines Careers leadership (0.6 FTE) with 0.4 FTE teaching, reporting to College leaders and working across the Secondary School.

You will develop and deliver the Flinders Careers Program, provide individual and cohort guidance, coordinate SET planning, advise on QCE/ATAR and QTAC processes, and build partnerships with

• Current Queensland College of Teachers registration.
• CICA endorsed postgraduate qualification in career development, or substantial progress toward completion.
• Professional membership, or eligibility to obtain membership, with a Career Industry Council of Australia member association.
• Experience developing and delivering engaging and inclusive career education or student pathway programs.
• Strong understanding of Queensland senior secondary pathways, QCE and ATAR eligibility, VET and tertiary admission processes.
• Experience supporting students with subject selection, SET planning, tertiary applications or post-school transition planning.
• Strong counselling, coaching and interviewing skills with professional boundaries.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex pathway information clearly.
• Strong organisational and project-management capability; manage appointments, events and deadlines.
• Comfort using digital platforms, SIS, career assessment tools and contemporary technologies.
• Student-centered, inclusive and culturally responsive approach.
• Commitment to mission and child-safe culture of the College.

Responsibilities

• Leading a structured and developmentally appropriate careers and future pathways program across the Secondary School.
• Providing individual and group career guidance to students.
• Coordinating and supporting SET planning, subject selection and transition planning.
• Advising students and families about QCE and ATAR requirements, QTAC processes, tertiary entry, scholarships and alternative pathways.
• Acting as the College’s appointed QTAC contact.
• Supporting vocational education and training pathways, school-based apprenticeships and traineeships and work experience opportunities.
• Developing partnerships with universities, TAFE, registered training organisations, employers, industry bodies, alumni and community organisations.
• Coordinating careers events, information evenings, presentations and engagement opportunities.
• Maintaining accessible and current careers information and resources through myFlinders and other College platforms.
• Using student participation, completion and destination data to evaluate the effectiveness of the careers and pathways programs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The College is seeking an experienced and future-focused teacher to take on the promotional position of Careers and Future Pathways Advisor, commencing in 2027.

This is an important leadership opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about helping young people understand their strengths, explore possibilities and make informed decisions about their education, training and future careers.

Working across the Secondary School, the Careers and Future Pathways Advisor will lead the development and delivery of the Flinders Careers Program and provide individual and cohort-based guidance to students. The position will work closely with College leaders, teachers, students, families, tertiary institutions, training providers, employers and industry partners.

Key responsibilities will include:

This is a full-time promotional position for a registered teacher, comprising approximately 0.6 FTE in Careers and Future Pathways and 0.4 FTE in teaching. The appointment will be made under the College’s promotional position arrangements and includes a Level 2 PPT allowance and time release above the minimum entitlement.

ABOUT YOU

You will be an experienced and highly regarded teacher who can build trust with students and families while providing accurate, balanced and practical guidance.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Current Queensland College of Teachers registration.

• A CICA-endorsed postgraduate qualification in career development, or substantial progress towards completion with a commitment to complete the qualification within an agreed timeframe.

• Professional membership, or eligibility to obtain membership, with a Career Industry Council of Australia member association.

• Experience developing and delivering engaging and inclusive career education or student pathway programs.

• A sound understanding of Queensland senior secondary pathways, QCAA requirements, QCE and ATAR eligibility, VET and tertiary admission processes.

• Experience supporting students with subject selection, SET planning, tertiary applications or post-school transition planning.

• Strong counselling, coaching and interviewing skills, together with an understanding of appropriate professional and referral boundaries.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to explain complex pathway information clearly.

• Strong organisational and project-management capability, including the ability to manage appointments, events and fixed external deadlines.

• Confidence using digital platforms, student information systems, career assessment tools and contemporary technologies.

• A student-centred, inclusive and culturally responsive approach.

• High levels of integrity, discretion, accuracy, initiative and professional judgement.
