Job summary

Uniting NSW.ACT is seeking a care service employee who also cooks for our aged care residents in Berrigan, NSW. The role blends kitchen duties with hands-on care, offering variety and growth in a supportive team.

You will prepare meals, manage dietary needs, assist with daily living activities, and contribute to residents’ comfort and dignity while respecting Uniting values.

Qualifications

• Certificate III/IV in Aged Care, Individual Support, or equivalent qualification is required.
• Experience in aged or community care or current studies in aged care are valued.
• Valid Australian driver’s license with access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Cook and care worker duties with shifts in kitchen and resident care.
• Prepare meals meeting dietary requirements and plan menus with residents.
• Provide personal assistance, companionship and support to residents daily.

What you’ll be doing in this role

This is a hybrid cook and care worker position. In this role you will work shifts both in the kitchen and as a care worker supporting our residents. This is a great opportunity for someone that enjoys variation and is excited to learn multiple roles.

As a Cook, you will:

• Prepare and cook daily meals that meet individual dietary requirements, including texture-modified options.
• Plan and rotate menus in consultation with the Service Manager and residents.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene standards in line with regulatory requirements.
• Manage food purchasing, storage, and usage within budget guidelines.

As a Care Service Employee, you will:

• Provide care, companionship and emotional support to residents living in our aged care home, to help support their independence and improve their quality of life
• Provide daily living assistance such as showering, personal hygiene, dressing, help at mealtimes and with general mobility
• Assist with medication and simple wound dressings
• Support residents in community-based recreational and social activities.

Who we’re looking for

• A Certificate III/IV in Aged Care, Individual Support, or equivalent qualification is required.
• You’ll have previous experience in aged or community care, or a passion to begin your career in aged care if you’re studying or have recently become qualified.
• You’ll be adaptable, empathetic, and resourceful, and you will be able to live Uniting’s everyday values of being compassionate, respectful, imaginative, and bold.
• Must hold a valid and current Australian drivers licence and have your own vehicle.
• Ideally, you’ll have some prior experience working in a kitchen as a kitchen hand or similar position.
