Job summary

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a Researcher role within the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. You will drive experimental and modelling studies on ex situ carbon mineralisation and operate a pioneering DAC-MIN pilot plant.

We seek candidates with a PhD in hydrogeochemistry, industrial chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields, a strong publication record, and experience in multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Hold or near completing a PhD in hydrogeochemistry, industrial chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline.
• Demonstrate research experience in fluid-rock reactions, carbon mineralisation, or water treatment.
• Strong peer-reviewed publication record for career stage.

Responsibilities

• Design laboratory experiments and geochemical modelling for ex situ carbon mineralisation.
• Develop methods for cation leaching, impurity removal, and carbonate precipitation from industrial waste.
• Operate and optimise the DAC-MIN pilot plant with safe, efficient performance.
• Publish high-impact research and contribute to funding proposals and collaborations.
• Co-supervise graduate and PhD students within the School.
