Job summary

Sydney Trains seeks a Capability & Learning Manager to lead design, development and improvement of innovative learning solutions across the organisation. You will partner with SMEs and leaders to assess capability needs and deliver meaningful outcomes for a future-ready workforce.

In this role, you'll:

Working as part of the Workforce Capability & Learning team, you will lead the design, development and continuous improvement of innovative learning solutions that build workforce capability and support business performance across Sydney Trains.

This role will see you partner with Learning Delivery Managers, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), business leaders and key stakeholders to assess capability needs and develop targeted learning solutions that deliver meaningful outcomes. You will have the opportunity to shape both accredited and non-accredited learning programs, ensuring they remain relevant, engaging and aligned with evolving operational requirements.

You will drive learner-centred and human-centred design practices, leveraging technology and contemporary learning methodologies to create impactful capability development programs. Collaborating across the organisation, you will identify opportunities to enhance learning effectiveness, integrate solutions into business-as-usual processes, and support the development of a future-ready workforce in a complex and dynamic operational environment.

This is a fixed-term, part-time opportunity until 28 February 2027, working 16 hours per week, offering flexibility while contributing to strategic capability initiatives across Sydney Trains.


You will bring experience in learning and development, instructional design and facilitation, with the ability to develop and deliver effective learning solutions in a large and complex organisation. You will also have a strong understanding of adult learning principles, workplace training and assessment, and ASQA standards for RTOs.

A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or equivalent), or demonstrated equivalent experience in adult learning and capability development, is required.
