Job summary

St Vincent’s Public Hospital, Sydney, is seeking a Social Worker (Level 1-2) in the Cancer Care Team to deliver specialist psychosocial support to cancer patients and families across inpatient and outpatient settings, spanning diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

You will conduct psychosocial assessments, assist with discharge planning, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, advocate for access to supports, and contribute to service development through supervision, education and quality

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Social Worker eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
• Experience in a tertiary hospital or healthcare setting.
• Experience with cancer patients and psychosocial assessment, counselling and advocacy.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, grief and loss, and short‑term solution‑focused approaches.
• Able to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and manage stakeholder engagement.
• Strong time management, documentation and computer literacy; willingness to participate in 24‑hour crisis on‑call service.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist social work services to cancer patients and families across inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Undertake psychosocial assessments, identify and manage risk, provide counselling and practical support.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in case discussions and coordinate discharge planning.
• Advocate for patients and carers, facilitating access to supports and services including applications through relevant bodies.
• Contribute to service development through supervision, quality improvement, education and research activities.
• Maintain professional standards through documentation and compliance with policies.
