Job summary

Westmead Hospital is seeking a Cancer Care Pharmacist – Education & Training to lead innovation in education across cancer care pharmacy and deliver expert clinical care at Westmead Hospital.

This temporary full-time role (up to 3 years) involves developing structured education programs, supervising staff, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to advance cancer treatment and patient care.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in cancer care clinical pharmacy practice.

Create and lead evidence-based cancer pharmacy education while delivering expert clinical care at Westmead Hospital.

Employment Type: Temporary Full Time (up to 3 years) Position Classification: Pharmacist Grade 3 Remuneration: $71.91 - $73.85 Hours Per Week: 38 Location: Westmead Hospital

  • Lead education and capability development within a specialised cancer care pharmacy service.
  • Work across inpatient and outpatient settings supporting patients receiving complex cancer treatments and supportive care.
  • Collaborate with senior cancer pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to clinical trials, research, quality improvement and contemporary cancer pharmacy practice.

What you'll be doing As the Cancer Care Pharmacist – Education & Training, you'll take a leadership role in building the knowledge, skills and confidence of the cancer care pharmacy workforce. You'll combine educational expertise with hands‑on clinical pharmacy practice to ensure staff are supported to deliver safe, evidence‑based cancer treatment.

  • Design, coordinate and evaluate structured education programs, including cytotoxic production orientation, clinical verification accreditation, preceptorships and clinical trial training.
  • Provide tailored supervision, mentorship and competency‑based learning aligned with individual development needs and professional standards.
  • Maintain contemporary, evidence‑based education resources, competencies, policies and procedures covering cancer therapies, supportive care and investigational products.
  • Deliver clinical pharmacy services including medication review, reconciliation, treatment verification, counselling and treatment planning for cancer inpatients and outpatients.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement through quality initiatives, medication safety, incident review, accreditation readiness and integration of emerging cancer therapeutics into practice.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both written, verbal and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all members of the health care team, patients and carers, contractors and vendors.
  • Demonstrated extensive experience in cancer care clinical pharmacy practice.
  • Demonstrated excellent therapeutic knowledge and ability to exercise a high level of initiative in the application of pharmaceutical principles to clinical practice, including strong appreciation of the principles of medication safety.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work and manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team with a high degree of self‑motivation and ability to effect practice change.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in staff supervision and training.
  • Willing to work on weekends, on‑call as per departmental rosters.
