Bowan Island Cafe Zetland is seeking a part-time Café Kitchen Hand & All-Rounder to join our dynamic hospitality team. Based in Zetland NSW 2017, you’ll support food prep, assemble menu items, and help maintain cleanliness in a fast-paced kitchen while contributing to excellent customer experiences.

Ideal candidates have kitchen/café experience, strong attention to detail, reliable, and a willingness to learn. A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate is advantageous; weekend shifts may apply.

Qualifications

• Previous kitchen or café experience preferred; genuine willingness to learn.
• High standard of food safety and hygiene.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and multitask.
• Excellent communication and teamwork with a positive attitude.
• Physical fitness to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.

Responsibilities

• Preparing and assembling sandwiches, salads, and other cafe items per recipes.
• Assisting with food prep, including chopping, mixing and portioning.
• Maintaining a clean kitchen, sanitising workstations and utensils.
• Supporting cafe operations, taking orders, serving customers, and till when required.
• Managing food storage and stock rotation to ensure freshness and safety.
• Assisting with beverage preparation including coffee and tea.
• Following food safety and hygiene protocols to protect customers.
• Collaborating with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service during peak periods.

About the role

We are seeking a Café Kitchen Hand & All-Rounder to join the team at Bowan Island Cafe Zetland on a part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic hospitality environment where you'll contribute to delivering exceptional customer experiences. Based in Zetland NSW 2017, you'll work in a fast-paced kitchen setting, supporting the preparation of fresh food and beverages whilst maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and efficiency. This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their skills in a welcoming café environment.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and assembling sandwiches, salads, and other café menu items according to established recipes and standards
• Assisting with food preparation, including chopping, mixing, and portioning ingredients
• Maintaining a clean and hygienic kitchen environment, including regular cleaning and sanitising of workstations, equipment and utensils
• Supporting the broader café operations, including taking orders, serving customers and operating the till when required
• Managing food storage and stock rotation to ensure freshness and compliance with food safety standards
• Assisting with beverage preparation, including coffee, tea and other hot and cold drinks
• Following all food safety and hygiene protocols to maintain the health and wellbeing of customers
• Working collaboratively with kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service during peak periods

What we're looking for

• Previous experience working in a kitchen or café environment, or a genuine willingness to learn
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a positive and collaborative attitude
• Physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
• Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to work part-time hours including potential weekend shifts
• A genuine passion for hospitality and customer service
• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate or willingness to obtain one would be advantageous
