Job summary

ENGEO is seeking a Cadet/Junior Laboratory Technician on the Gold Coast to learn hands-on in geotechnical and construction materials testing. This entry-level role involves both lab and field activities, with heavy lifting and physical work required.

You’ll join a small team, receive structured training, and work toward Certificate III/IV qualifications while gaining broad exposure to laboratory and field tests and safe work practices.

Qualifications

• Entry-level role in geotechnical & construction materials testing.
• Must be able to perform physical field work and heavy lifting.
• Training to achieve Certificate III/IV.
• Open to graduates from science backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with sampling and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, and other construction materials
• Supporting field investigations for engineering projects
• Logging and labeling samples and assisting with field records
• Working with senior technicians to learn testing methods and safe practices
• Progressively building competency across laboratory test methods per NATA scope
• Maintaining equipment and records

Job description

ENGEO is growing and we’re looking for a Cadet or Junior Laboratory Technician to join us!

This isn't your typical lab environment. We don't havelab coats & white cleanrooms – we operate in an openwarehouse and onconstruction sites, withhigh vis jackets, buckets of soil, and steel toe boots.

We’re proud of the way we train and support our people, and this role is all about learning the ropes, getting hands‑on experience, and developing into a fully competent laboratory technician.

About the role

This is an entry‑level opportunity for someone looking to start their career in the geotechnical & construction materials testing industry. It's important to note that this is a physical role including heavy lifting and manual field work activity.

You’ll join a small, friendly team, who are there to help youacross a wide range of laboratory and field activities:

• Assisting with sampling and laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, and other construction materials
• Supporting field investigation for engineering projects
• Logging and labelling soil and rock samples and assisting with field records
• Working alongside senior technicians and project teams to learn correct testing methods and safe work practices
• Progressively building competency across laboratory test methods in line with the NATA scope of accreditation
• Helping with general laboratory duties such as equipment maintenance and record keeping

This is a full-time permanent role and a real career opportunity –with structured support, mentoring, and clear development milestones.

About you

• High school or university graduateswith an interest in science, construction and hands‑on technical work
• Candidates who already hold a Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Skills, or are keen to work towards one

• Physical fitness - you'll need to be able to lift 20 kg samples
• Good attention to detail and a practical, hands‑on approach
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• An interest in laboratory, field testing and quality systems
