Job summary

Parkes Shire Council is seeking a Cadet Engineer who will study Civil Engineering while gaining hands-on experience. You will assist with design, estimating, contract admin and project delivery across roads and civil assets, developing practical skills in a supportive team.

Requirements include HSC and eligibility for a university engineering degree, plus strong communication, task management and teamwork. A NSW driver licence and White Card are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and eligibility for entry into university to undertake an engineering degree via not a recognised distance education.
• Interest in local government infrastructure and project delivery.
• Excellent communication skills for stakeholders.
• Ability to manage tasks and meet deadlines.
• Team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

• Assist with engineering design, estimating and contract administration.
• Support the delivery of infrastructure projects across roads and civil assets.
• Contribute to ensuring designs meet relevant standards and timelines.
• Assess traffic impacts and help develop practical solutions, including parking and transport planning.
• Respond to customer applications under the Roads Act and Heavy Vehicle legislation.
• Assist in reviewing NHVR permits and gazettal requests.
• Undertake other duties as required.
