Turn this role into an interview — a resume and cover letter built around what this employer wants.
Ampersand is seeking a BD Coordinator to join the Sydney team and collaborate with lawyers, partners and the national BD, Marketing & Communications function.
No prior law-firm BD experience is required; candidates from events, marketing, communications or professional services are encouraged to apply. Hybrid work setup with Django-like flexibility in Sydney.
The role offers exposure to tenders, client events, social content and strategic BD initiatives across Sydney and Brisbane offices.
We're working with a well-established Australian law firm that is known for being commercial, collaborative and refreshingly down-to-earth. They're looking for a BD Coordinator to join their Sydney team and work closely with lawyers, partners and the wider national BD, Marketing & Communications function.
And here’s the good news: you don’t need to have worked in a law firm before.
Perhaps you’ve built your career in events, marketing, communications, professional services, property, financial services or another client-focused environment and you're ready to get closer to the commercial side of the business.
Or maybe you're already working in law firm BD and looking for a team where you’ll get genuine exposure, support and mentorship.
Either way, if you're organised, curious and keen to learn, they're interested in meeting you.
This is a genuinely broad BD role, with a great mix of events, tenders, marketing and communications.
You’ll work across:
Your support spans the Sydney and Brisbane offices, and you’ll work across a range of practice and industry groups rather than being locked into one specific team.
Perhaps events are your strength and you've always wanted to get more involved in tenders, proposals and strategic BD.
Or you're a marketing and communications generalist who wants to move beyond content and campaigns and understand how professional services firms actually win work.
Maybe you're already comfortable with bids and tenders and want to build your events, communications and client-facing experience.
You don't need to tick every box.
The team has strong templates, processes and knowledge banks in place, and they're very comfortable teaching the technical side of law-firm BD to someone with the right attitude and transferable skills.
What you'll gain is exposure to the full BD mix — from writing a compelling social post or partner profile, to coordinating a major client event, to helping pull together a strategic tender that could win significant new work.
This is probably the most important part.
The Sydney office is relatively small, so you'll work directly alongside lawyers, partners and the broader corporate services team rather than being tucked away in a separate department.
The partners genuinely value BD and are generous with their time. You'll have plenty of opportunity to learn from experienced BD professionals and get exposure to senior people across the firm.
It's professional, but not corporate or stuffy. People are expected to work hard, take ownership and deliver - but they're also encouraged to ask questions, collaborate and have a laugh along the way.
There are social, sporting, sustainability and diversity initiatives, Friday drinks and plenty of opportunities to get involved beyond your day job.
Most importantly, they're looking for someone who is not precious, someone who will roll up their sleeves, have a go and work well with different personalities.
You’ll be someone who enjoys writing, creating, organising and making things happen. You’re detail-focused, comfortable juggling different priorities and confident dealing with people at all levels.
What matters most is that you're smart, organised, commercially curious and keen to build something long term.
If you're a marketing, communications or events professional who has been thinking about moving into BD, this is a particularly good opportunity to make that move.
You don't need to know everything on day one. You just need to be good at what you do, curious about the rest, and keen to learn.
