Job summary

Lake Macquarie City Council is seeking experienced bush regenerators for 12‑month term contracts to protect and restore our natural environment across Lake Macquarie. This hands‑on role covers bush regeneration, revegetation, weed management and fire mitigation on nominated sites within the City Presentation Department.

You'll work outdoors, 35 hours per week across a 4‑day condensed week, with pay starting at a competitive rate plus 12% superannuation and additional allowances for travel and

• Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated practical experience in bush regeneration, conservation or land management.
• Sound knowledge of local vegetation communities and weed management techniques.
• Understanding of environmental values, threats and appropriate management practices.
• Good communication skills and safety-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Undertake bush regeneration, revegetation and APZ works across project sites.
• Apply integrated weed control techniques (manual, mechanical, chemical).
• Plant trees and restore vegetation; monitor and protect environmental values.
• Work safely in high-conservation areas, following project plans.
• Contribute to project planning, team activities and safety culture.

Our Natural Area Projects team has several 12-month term contract opportunities for experienced bush regenerators and fire mitigation workers who are passionate about protecting and restoring our natural environment.

This is a hands‑on operational role where you'll undertake bush regeneration, revegetation, restoration, weed management, fire mitigation and Asset Protection Zone (APZ) works across Lake Macquarie.

Working within our City Presentation Department, you'll join a skilled and progressive team committed to delivering practical outcomes for our natural areas.

Your key focus areas are.

• Undertake bush regeneration, revegetation, weed management, fire mitigation and APZ works across nominated project sites.
• Apply integrated weed control techniques, including manual, mechanical and chemical methods.
• Undertake tree planting, vegetation restoration, brush cutting, environmental monitoring and other practical conservation activities.
• Work safely and effectively within high‑conservation‑value areas, protecting environmental and site values.
• Contribute to project planning, team activities, continuous improvement and a strong safety culture.

You're an experienced bush regenerator or natural area worker who takes pride in practical environmental work and understands what it takes to restore and protect natural ecosystems.

You're safety-conscious, reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You bring sound knowledge of local vegetation communities, weed management and conservation practices, and are confident working in challenging outdoor environments.

You will bring.

• A Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or similar relevant qualification, or equivalent experience; or be currently working towards a relevant qualification.
• Demonstrated practical experience in bush regeneration, conservation or land management.
• Sound knowledge of local plant communities, weed identification and vegetation management techniques.
• Understanding of environmental values, threats and appropriate management practices. Experience working independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to safety and quality outcomes.
• Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate respectfully with stakeholders and members of the community.
• Current Class C Manual Drivers Licence.
