Job summary

Rockhampton Girls Grammar School in Queensland is seeking a casual Bus Driver to support the daily transport of students. The role requires readiness for early starts and after-school runs, with a focus on safety and reliability on school routes.

The Bus Driver will operate in collaboration with the Transport Manager to ensure punctual service, proper vehicle condition, and courteous interaction with students and staff.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of highway and school bus regulations.
• Experience in dealing with children including those with specials needs.
• Experience in record keeping systems, scheduling systems and procedures.
• Knowledge of plant equipment cleaning standards and procedures for buses.
• Analytical problem-solving skills with strong organisational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated sound work ethic with strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, working positively with students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Transport students safely to and from school according to daily schedule.
• Maintain school bus cleanliness and ensure regular vehicle checks.
• Maintain order and comply with laws and the School Code of Conduct.
• Report complaints to the Transport Manager or Facilities and Services Manager.

THE ROLE

Position: Bus Driver

Employment Type: Casual

Commence: As soon as possible

Availability Requirements

Successful applicants must be available to work flexible hours, including:

School Transport Runs

• Morning availability from 5:45am for pre-start checks and scheduled before-school bus runs.
• Afternoon availability from 2:45pm for pre-start checks and scheduled after-school bus runs.

Additional Transport Duties

Weekday availability for:

• Excursions and educational trips
• Sporting events
• Camps and special activities
• Other school-related transport requirements

Availability for occasional weekend work, including:

• Boarding student transport
• Airport transfers
• Recreational and school-organised activities
• Other approved transport services

Hours of work will vary according to operational requirements and student transport needs.

Weekend work is paid at Overtime penalty rates.

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Rockhampton Girls Grammar Schools Bus Drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school according to the daily schedule. The Bus Driver must ensure that the school bus is always in a good operating condition and cleanliness maintained. The Bus Driver must maintain order and security on the bus and obey all laws, traffic regulations and the Schools Code of Conduct.

COMMUNITY RESPONSIBILITY

The Bus Driver, when dealing with the community, must act courteously and respectfully. This includes if the Bus Driver receives a complaint regarding bus schedules or the quality of service being provided. The school Bus Driver must report all complaints to the Transport Manager and/or Facilities and Services Manager.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Promote Rockhampton Girls Grammar School inside and outside the school community.

The successful application is required to:

• possess a current Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian or has the ability to obtain;
• hold a current MR or HR Licence; and
• hold a current Driver Authorisation or ability to obtain.
