Job summary

Uniting is seeking a compassionate Bus Driver in the Sydney Metro region to safely transport residents and clients, including those with mobility needs and disabilities. The role blends professional driving with care duties to support daily activities and community outings.

You will hold an LR (1B) license, complete daily logs, assist with mobility and personal care, and work as part of Transport Services. This part-time position offers meaningful work helping people stay connected.

Qualifications

• Current LR (1B) Driver’s Licence
• Certificate III in Aged Care or Individual Support
• Proven experience driving buses
• Genuine commitment to supporting frail older people and people with disability
• Experience or willingness to support people with dementia and challenging behaviours
• Current First Aid Certificate, or willingness to obtain one
• Good communication skills
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety
• Commitment to following Uniting policies, procedures and Safe Work Practices

Responsibilities

• Safely transporting residents and clients between homes, Uniting locations and community activities
• Driving clients on outings and assisting with planning of activities
• Helping residents safely enter and exit the bus
• Providing mobility assistance, including support with wheelchairs
• Supervising clients throughout journeys and outings and ensuring safety
• Providing personal care and support, including toileting and hygiene assistance
• Assisting with meals during outings
• Supporting clients with activities and other care needs
• Assisting with medication in accordance with Uniting policies and procedures
• Maintaining client dignity, privacy and independence
• Completing daily vehicle logs and documentation
• Ensuring the vehicle is clean, safe and well maintained
• Reporting servicing, repairs, hazards or safety concerns promptly
• Following emergency procedures and WHS and infection-control requirements

Are you a safe and reliable driver who also has a genuine passion for caring for older people and supporting people living with disability? Uniting is looking for a compassionate and experienced bus driver to join our Transport Services team in the Sydney Metro region.

This is a unique role that combines professional driving with hands-on care and support. You’ll be responsible for safely transporting residents and clients to and from Uniting locations, appointments and outings, while making sure they feel comfortable, respected and supported every step of the way.

About the Role

As a Bus Driver, you’ll provide safe and comfortable transport for our residents and clients, many of whom may have mobility needs, dementia, developmental disabilities or other complex support requirements.

You’ll be more than their driver — you’ll be a familiar, friendly face they can rely on.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Safely transporting residents and clients between their homes, Uniting locations and community activities
• Driving clients on outings and assisting with the planning of activities where required
• Helping residents safely enter and exit the bus
• Providing mobility assistance, including support with wheelchairs
• Supervising clients throughout journeys and outings and ensuring their safety and comfort
• Providing appropriate personal care and support, including toileting and hygiene assistance
• Assisting with meals, morning teas and afternoon teas during outings
• Supporting clients with activities and other care needs
• Assisting with medication in accordance with Uniting policies and procedures
• Maintaining client dignity, privacy, choice and independence at all times
• Completing daily vehicle logs and other required documentation
• Ensuring the vehicle is clean, safe and well maintained
• Reporting servicing, repairs, hazards or safety concerns promptly
• Following emergency procedures and all WHS and infection-control requirements

• A confident, safe and reliable bus driver

• Comfortable working with older people and people living with disability
• Experienced or willing to work with people living with dementia, developmental disabilities and/or mental health conditions
• Comfortable providing personal care and mobility assistance
• A strong communicator who enjoys building positive relationships
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• A team player who works well with care and transport teams
• Familiar with Sydney and surrounding road networks
• Committed to providing equitable and respectful service to everyone, regardless of background
• Professional, reliable and committed to maintaining client confidentiality and dignity

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Current LR (1B) Driver’s Licence
