Job summary

Redfern Jarjum College is seeking a dedicated Bus Driver to safely transport students within the Sydney area and on excursions. You will interact with students, parents and staff, supporting well-being and pastoral care in a dynamic school environment.

The role requires early morning and afternoon shifts, driving a bus with a focus on safety and reliability. Applicants should possess a current Australian Driver Licence, preferably MR, be at least 25, medically fit, and have a clean driving

Qualifications

• Be at least 25 years of age.
• Hold a current Australian Driver Licence with at least three years of experience.
• Must be medically fit to drive and supervise students.
• Be a safe driver with a good driving record.
• Medium Rigid Licence is desirable but not essential.
• Experience working with children and/or families is beneficial.
• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Collect children daily and return them home; morning shift 7am–9am.
• Return students to home or after-school program 3pm–5pm.
• Plan efficient bus routes as new children enrol.
• Manage bus phone and maintain contact with parents and school.
• Keep school admin information up to date for pick up/drop off.
• Liaise with families, deliver messages and information as required.
• Return bus to secure parking and perform basic maintenance checks.
• Organise bus cleaning and handle fuel card receipts.
• Ensure fuel card receipts are filed and kept secure.

Job description

The Bus Driver safely transports students to and from school, as well as to and from excursions around the Sydney Area. The Bus Driver will work with students with behavioural, social, learning difficulties and must work within a supportive environment where pastoral care/well-being is important for each student. This will involve working closely with students, parents/carers, fellow staff and the local Aboriginal communities. Maintaining a professional manner is essential to this role.

Key responsibilities

Collect the children every day and return them home after school, leaving early enough to have all the children at school before 9am (morning shift 7am - 9am). Return students home or to the after-school program at the end of the day (afternoon shift (3pm - 5pm).

Work out the most effective route when new children enrol

Manage the bus phone and maintain contact with parents and the school when necessary, ensuring the phone is mounted on an approved phone holder during the trip

Continually communicate with the school administrator to ensure all children's pick up/drop off information is up to date

Interact with the families and children, and deliver messages, hampers and information to families

Return the school bus to secure parking space at the end of each shift

Attend to any repairs and maintenance of the bus

Liaise with the school administrator regarding the yearly registration of the bus

Be responsible for the fuel card and returning receipts to the office

Organise the bus to be cleaned

Hold a current Australian Driver licence and have held it for at least three years

Be at least 25 years of age

Must be medically fit

Be a safe driver and hold a good driving record

Medium Rigid Licence is desirable but not essential
