Job summary

Cairns Adventist College in Gordonvale, Cairns Region, is seeking a part-time Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and on field trips. The role runs 4 hours per day, 5 days a week, mornings 7–9am and afternoons 3–5pm, starting October 6, 2026.

Applicants must hold a Class LR Licence and a Queensland Working with Children Blue Card, and be able to relate well to students while maintaining discipline and safety on board.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Class LR Licence and have Queensland Transport Authority approvals.
• Must hold a current Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
• Ability to relate well to students and maintain discipline on the bus.

Responsibilities

• Operate the school bus in compliance with traffic regulations and safety standards.
• Ensure bus cleanliness and perform basic maintenance checks.
• Assist students with disabilities or special needs during transport.
• Maintain accurate records of bus mileage, fuel use, and student ridership.
• Communicate schedule changes with school staff, parents and students.
• Maintain a positive, professional attitude with students, parents and colleagues.
• Follow policies set by the Northern Australian Conference.

Cairns Adventist College is a small rural Primary school situated in Gordonvale. We offer a very unique door to door bus service. We run a fleet of 3 buses that extends from Redlynch in the North, Gordonvale in the South and Yarrabah to the East.

Job Description

We are seeking applications for the position of ‘Bus Driver’. The position is 5 days a week 7-9am and 3-5pm (4hrs a day, 20hrs a week) and commences Oct 6, 2026.

Desired Skills and Experience

All applicants must:

• Hold a minimum Class LR Licence and have relevant QLD Transport Driver Authorisation / Industry Authority.
• Hold a current Queensland Working with Children Blue Card.
• Maintain good discipline with the students travelling on the bus within the parameters of the College Bus Rules.
• Be able to relate well to the students.

As a Bus Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as on field trips and other school-related activities. Your main tasks will include:

• Operating the school bus in compliance with all traffic regulations and safety standards
• Ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the bus
• Assisting students with disabilities or special needs during transportation
• Maintaining accurate records of bus mileage, fuel consumption, and student ridership
• Communicating effectively with school staff, parents, and students regarding bus schedules and any changes or delays
• Upholding a positive and professional attitude while interacting with students, parents, and colleagues
• Adhering to the policies and procedures set forth by the Northern Australian Conference
