Job summary

SGCH Group is seeking a Building Compliance Specialist to lead our building compliance and essential services programs across the portfolio. You will ensure statutory obligations, essential fire safety measures and critical assets are effectively managed, working with contractors, regulators and internal stakeholders.

This role offers autonomous delivery, a focus on continuous improvement, and travel to SGCH locations as required. It is a permanent, full-time position based at the Redfern office.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building compliance and fire safety management.
  • Experience managing contracts, KPIs, budgets and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to travel to SGCH locations and NSW Driver Licence.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate compliance, asset and reporting records.
  • Manage regulatory matters and NCAT access applications.
  • Provide specialist compliance and fire safety advice.
  • Drive continuous improvement and process optimisation.
  • Build strong relationships with contractors and stakeholders.

Job Description

About the roleand about you

As the Building Compliance Specialist, you will take ownership of SGCH's building compliance and planned maintenance programs, ensuring statutory obligations, essential fire safety measures, and critical assets are effectively managed across the portfolio. Working closely with contractors, regulators, and internal stakeholders, you'll oversee contract performance, manage compliance risks, conduct audits and inspections, and deliver expert advice that supports safe, compliant, and well-maintained homes for our customers. Operating with a high level of autonomy, you'll play a key role in driving continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence across the organisation.

To succeed in this role, you will bring strong experience in building compliance, fire safety and contractor management with the ability to manage risk, engage stakeholders and deliver compliance outcomes.

This is apermanent, full time role based at ourRedfernoffice and requires travel to other SGCH office locationsasrequired. This role reports to the Compliance and Fire Safety Manager.

Please note: This position is internally referred to as Specialist, Building Compliance and Essential Services.

Desired Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in building surveying, fire safety, construction, or a related field, with relevant industry experience. A current NSW Driver Licence and ability to travel to SGCH locations as required.
  • Extensive experience managing building compliance, maintenance contracts, contractor performance, KPIs, budgets, risks, EFSMs, critical assets, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong understanding of building inspections, audits, AFSS processes, building permits, fire safety orders, the Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards, WHS, and Residential Tenancy legislation.
  • Excellent analytical, reporting, stakeholder engagement, communication, and record-keeping skills, with proficiency in MS Office and asset/compliance systems.
