Job summary

City of Monash is seeking a Building Inspector to join the Building Team in a full-time, permanent role. The position emphasises building compliance with a supportive, collaborative team and a strong focus on service to the community.

Preferred registration as a Registered Building Practitioner and a tertiary diploma in Building Inspection or Surveying are required, with a range of duties spanning inspections, customer enquiries and team support.

Qualifications

• Understanding of Building Act and Building Regulations.
• Ability to assess information provided to Council and provide accurate information.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members, owners, customers, professionals.
• Ability to understand technical information.
• Ability to assist in achieving the desired outcomes.
• Ability to communicate in a respectful and considerate manner.
• Ability to participate in an environment that motivates and supports the team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out the inspection of buildings within the City of Monash ensuring compliance with the Building Act and Building Regulations.
• Enforcements and general administrative functions.
• Engage with Council's customers to assist them with their enquiries, via email, phone calls and counter enquiries.
• Assist other staff where necessary; and
• Carry out other functions to support the building team as required.

Education
