Job summary

5MI Australia Pty Ltd, a Canberra-based construction and project management company, is seeking a Building Associate to support planning, coordination and supervision of residential and commercial fitouts. The role covers carpentry, framing, drywall, ceilings, facades and related works.

You will assist Construction Managers, interpret plans, coordinate trades and monitor safety and quality across projects, ensuring timelines and budgets are met while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

Position Overview

As a Building Associate at 5MI Australia Pty Ltd, you will be responsible for supporting the planning, coordination and site supervision of residential and commercial construction and fitout projects, including carpentry, structural framing, internal fitouts, drywall and ceilings, external facades and related works.

Responsibilities and Tasks

• Assist Construction Managers and site supervisors with planning and organising residential and commercial construction and fitout works from site commencement through to completion.
• Interpret construction plans, drawings, specifications, building regulations and codes of practice to coordinate carpentry, structural framing, fitout, drywall, ceiling and facade works.
• Coordinate works programs and sequencing of trades, subcontractors, labour, materials, plant and equipment to support project schedules and efficient site operations.
• Inspect building work, materials and workmanship to verify compliance with approved plans, project specifications, applicable standards, quality requirements and building regulations.
• Assist with calculating material quantities, construction costs and timeframes, and monitor site requirements to support project budget and program controls.
• Supervise and coordinate day‑to‑day site activities, including subcontractors and trades, and address site constraints or technical issues that may affect project progress.
• Monitor construction progress, productivity, quality and completion milestones, and prepare accurate site records and progress updates for Construction and Project Managers.
• Liaise with builders, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and site personnel to coordinate material deliveries, resolve construction matters and maintain continuity of works.
• Support workplace health and safety requirements by monitoring site practices, identifying risks and assisting with the implementation of project and company safety procedures.
• Maintain construction documentation, inspection records, defect and non‑conformance records, variations and other project information required for quality control and project delivery.

Qualifications and Skills

• Relevant qualification.

• Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, building regulations and codes of practice.
• Sound knowledge of site coordination, construction sequencing, quality assurance and workplace health and safety requirements.

Salary

The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $75,000 – $85,000 p.a plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
