Job summary

The Department of Health Tasmania is seeking a skilled Business Analyst to support budget development, monitoring and reporting across hospitals and services. The role emphasises financial and non-financial analyses to drive improved budget control and outcomes, with opportunities to develop knowledge alongside senior team members.

You will contribute to accrual and cash accounting analyses, deliver monthly and year-end reports, and support cost centre managers with budgeting processes.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of business systems, accrual and cash accounting concepts and accounting procedures with experience in applying this understanding within business operational environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in research, investigation and analytical skills with an ability to clearly articulate the results and recommend actions to make improvements.
  • Demonstrated high level attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial reports including monthly reports, end of year forecasts and Commonwealth funding acquittals on an accrual and cash basis, for a range of users.
  • Prepare performance reports incorporating human resource, service activity and financial information. Advise clients on appropriate actions to take to achieve targets and provide support to implement.
  • Undertake in depth analysis of business unit and cost centre performance, identifying key issues, trends and variances. Provide advice and make recommendations to the Manager – Business Support to implement agreed strategies.
  • Assist and support cost centre managers in relation to budget and reporting processes by conducting training and supporting decision making with a view to increasing financial literacy, independence and accountability.
