Are you passionate about creating safer communities and supporting young men to develop healthier relationships?

Join our dedicated team as a Young Men's Specialist in the Break the Cycle Program, an innovative initiative focused on delivering trauma-informed, attachment-based support to young men aged 12-18 who may be at risk of, or currently using, violence in their interpersonal relationships.

About the Role

The Young Men's Specialist provides targeted, individualised counselling and case management support to participants of the Break the Cycle program, a 6-12-month intensive initiative addressing the impacts of domestic, family, and sexual violence.

The role involves:

• Trauma-Informed and Attachment-Based Interventions: Engaging with young men using a holistic therapeutic model informed by trauma care principles, attachment theory, strengths-based counselling, and feminist practice.
• Outreach and Onsite Support: Delivering support both within our service sites and in outreach settings that meet the individual needs of each participant.
• Safety and Risk Management: Conducting ongoing risk assessments, safety planning, and collaborative case coordination to ensure each young man's safety and engagement with the program.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct Service Delivery: Provide trauma-informed, attachment-based interventions; complete risk assessments and safety planning; and support participants in achieving individual goals through structured, goal-oriented engagement strategies.
• Case Management and Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams and key stakeholders, including YFS, ISR, and HRT partners, to maintain clear referral pathways and deliver a comprehensive, integrated response to domestic and family violence.
• Administrative Support: Maintain accurate data collection, report outcomes, and engage in all required administrative tasks associated with client service delivery.
• Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in training, reflective practice, and team supervision to continually enhance service delivery and maintain alignment with best practices.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

• Tertiary Qualifications & Experience: Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related field, with a minimum of 2 years' experience in the human services sector.
• Domestic & Family Violence Framework Knowledge: In-depth understanding of a domestic and family violence (DFV) framework grounded in a gendered analysis of men's violence against women, recognizing DFV as a manifestation and driver of power imbalances.
• Trauma-Informed Case Management: Proven experience in trauma-informed case management, particularly in empowering young people who have experienced DFV or sexual violence.
• Interpersonal Communication Skills: Strong ability to engage effectively with young people, families, education providers, and other community practitioners, including individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to contribute to a collaborative, harmonious team environment.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related IT programs.
• Legislative Knowledge: Knowledge of, or the ability to quickly acquire, an understanding of the Domestic & Family Violence Protection Act 2012, including relevant court and legislative processes.
