Job summary

Wilmar Sugar & Renewables is seeking a qualified Boilermaker in North Queensland’s Herbert Region to perform welding, fabrication and repairs on large fixed plant and equipment. The role is maintenance-focused, with breakdown response, planned maintenance, and workshop/site fabrication across sugar factories.

You’ll bring sound welding and fabrication skills, a strong safety mindset and the ability to work independently or with other trades.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent.
• Experience in heavy industrial fabrication, welding, repairs and maintenance of large fixed plant.
• Experience working with structural steelwork, pipework and industrial equipment.
• TIG welding and pipe fabrication experience.
• Pressure welding qualifications or experience.
• Dogging or Basic Rigging High Risk Work Licences.
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP) and Forklift licences.
• Experience in sugar milling, mining, manufacturing or similar heavy industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Weld & Fabricate: Carry out welding, cutting, fabrication and repairs on structural steelwork, pipework, chutes, guards and other industrial plant components.
• Maintain Heavy Industrial Plant: Repair and maintain large fixed plant and equipment, supporting the safe and reliable operation of our sugar factories.
• Breakdowns & Repairs: Identify faults, assess damaged components and carry out practical repairs to minimise downtime and get equipment back into service.
• Workshop & Site Fabrication: Read drawings, measure, cut, prepare and assemble components, completing fabrication work in the workshop and across the factory.
• Support Major Maintenance: Work alongside other tradespeople during equipment installations, planned shutdowns, major repairs and plant overhauls.
• Share Your Trade Knowledge: Provide practical guidance and on-the-job support to apprentices and trainees, helping them develop their welding and fabrication skills.
• Work Safely & Accurately: Follow isolation and permit requirements, complete work orders and maintenance records, and maintain safe working practices across the workshop and factory.
