Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking an Associate Midwifery Unit Manager for the Birthing Services Unit at Mercy Hospital for Women, Heidelberg, Melbourne. This permanent part-time role (0.6 EFT) leads a 12-bed birthing suite within a tertiary centre, supporting women through varied birth options and high-risk pregnancies.

You will mentor midwives, oversee daily operations, and contribute to service improvements while developing leadership skills with support from the Unit Manager.

Qualifications

• AMUM experience or prior charge in a birthing suite.
• Competent to perform IV cannulation and balloon catheter insertion for induction of labour.
• Knowledge of managing high-risk pregnancies and facilitating physiological birth where possible.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operations of the 12-bed birthing suite.
• Guide the team to provide comprehensive midwifery care and support birth choices.
• Encourage midwives to work to their full scope of practice.
• Participate in working groups to promote positive change.
