Job summary

Circles of Support Plus in Canberra seeks a Behaviour Support Practitioner for an on-site contract role. The practitioner will conduct functional behaviour assessments, observe participants and develop tailored Positive Behaviour Support plans aligned with NDIS requirements.

Collaborating with participants, families and support teams, you will deliver training to support workers, maintain accurate records, and update plans as needs or risk profiles change.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification and eligibility to work as a Behaviour Support Practitioner under NDIS Commission requirements.
• Experience in Positive Behaviour Support and development/review of behaviour support plans.
• Trauma-informed practice and risk assessment commitment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills to coach families, support workers and other professionals.
• Ability to work autonomously on-site and manage a caseload.
• Sound knowledge of the NDIS framework and relevant legislation.
• Current driver’s license and ability to travel within the Greater Canberra Area; required clearances (e.g. WWVP / WWCC, National Police Check).
• Experience with diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to inclusion and cultural safety.

Role Description

This is an on-site, contract role for a Behaviour Support Practitioner based in the Greater Canberra Area. The practitioner will conduct functional behaviour assessments, observe participants in their environments and develop tailored Positive Behaviour Support plans aligned with NDIS requirements. Daily tasks include collaborating with participants, families, and support teams, delivering training and coaching to support workers and carers, and monitoring the implementation of behaviour support strategies. The role involves maintaining accurate documentation, preparing reports, and updating plans in response to changes in participant needs or risk profiles. The practitioner will also participate in case discussions, contribute to continuous service improvement and adhere to trauma-informed and safeguarding practices.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Education, or a related human services field, and eligibility to work as a Behaviour Support Practitioner under NDIS Commission requirements.
• Demonstrated experience in Positive Behaviour Support, functional behaviour assessment, and development and review of behaviour support plans for children, young people, and adults.
• Strong skills in trauma-informed practice, person-centered planning, and risk assessment, with a commitment to safeguarding and upholding human rights.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to coach families, support workers, and other professionals.
• Ability to work autonomously on-site, manage a caseload, maintain accurate clinical records, and meet reporting and compliance requirements.
• Sound knowledge of the NDIS framework, relevant legislation, and best-practice guidelines in disability and mental health support.
• Current driver’s license, ability to travel within the Greater Canberra Area, and relevant clearances (e.g., Working With Vulnerable People / Working With Children Check, National Police Check).
• Experience working with diverse communities and a demonstrated commitment to inclusion, cultural safety, and continuous professional development.
