Job summary

The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (Bear Cottage) in Manly seeks an Assistant in Nursing to support RNs and allied health in delivering holistic care to children with life-limiting illnesses.

The role is temporary part-time, 18 hours per week, and involves working within a team, completing mandatory training, and adhering to NSW Health guidelines to ensure high‑quality patient care.

Qualifications

• HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance.
• Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member.
• Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Relevant experience as an Assistant in Nursing in an acute care area.
• Demonstrated effective time management skills.
• Must be available to work 7 days a week mornings and evenings rotating roster.

Responsibilities

• The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) role assists in the provision of basic nursing care, working within a plan of care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) within a team setting.
• The AIN is responsible for assisting in the delivery of quality individualised care to patients at The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network (SCHN) within the guidelines set by the NSW Department of Health, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council Framework, The SCHN – Division of Nursing and within the limits of the AIN position description.
• The AIN will:
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Demonstrate ethical behaviour in their performance
• Understand and respect patients' rights.
• Provide evidence of completion of annual mandatory training.
• Practice within the NSW Health guidelines, the position description and guidelines for the SCHN and are required to adhere to Policies and Procedures.
• Adhere to the NSW Health Code of Conduct.

Bear Cottage Children's Hospice is situated in MANLY. Bear Cottage cares for children with life limiting illnesses and their families providing respite, symptom management and end of life care in a home like environment. We are looking for an assistant in nursing to work alongside our Registered Nurses and Allied Health Team in providing holistic nursing care to the children we care for. Experience working in the disability sector or with children is desirable.

What you'll be doing

AIN's are not to be allocated their own patients. AIN's are not to be assigned patients where one to one therapeutic nursing supervision is prescribed.
