Job summary

Fresh & Save Australia is seeking a Bakery Manager to lead the bakery department and drive high quality, fresh products and strong store performance.

You will oversee day-to-day bakery operations, production planning, stock control, safety and staff development, working closely with the Store Manager and Operations team to achieve targets. This is a hands-on leadership role with rostering, cost control and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

• 3+ years' bakery supervisory experience.
• Retail bakery or department management experience.
• Strong knowledge of bakery production and daily operations.
• Experience leading and developing a team.

About the role

As Bakery Manager, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the bakery and lead the team to deliver a high-quality, well-presented and commercially successful department.

You’ll be responsible for:

• Leading the day-to-day operation of the Bakery Department
• Working hands-on alongside the bakery team as required
• Driving sales, gross profit and department performance
• Managing department wage costs and rostering within targets
• Planning production and ensuring the department is full, fresh and appealing throughout trade
• Managing ordering, stock levels, stock rotation, waste and stock control
• Maintaining high standards of product quality, merchandising and presentation
• Recruiting, training, coaching and developing bakery team members
• Managing team performance and supporting succession and development
• Maintaining strong food safety, hygiene and WHS standards
• Ensuring bakery equipment and machinery is appropriately maintained
• Working closely with the Store Manager, Bakery Specialist and Operations team to achieve store and department targets

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong bakery knowledge with genuine leadership capability.

You’ll ideally have:

• At least 3 years' bakery experience at supervisory level
• Previous retail bakery, supermarket or department management experience
• Strong knowledge of bakery production and day-to-day bakery operations
• Experience leading, training and developing a team
• Commercial awareness, including sales, GP, wages, stock and waste
• Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving skills
• Good food safety and WHS knowledge
• Confidence using computer-based retail and ordering systems
• A hands-on leadership style and willingness to jump into production when required
• High standards of quality, presentation and customer service.
