Job summary

29Metals is seeking a Backfill Engineer for the Golden Grove operation in Western Australia. You will report to the Backfill Superintendent and work on an 8:6 roster to support underground mining operations.

Your focus is on developing and managing backfill strategies that ensure safe production and long-term mine stability, including paste/CHF backfill, plan design, QA/QC, and collaboration with plant operators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• Experience with backfilling, CHF pastefill, or rockfill operations.
• Proficiency with mining software packages.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage backfill strategies to support safe mining and tailings management.
• Design fill plans based on mining cycles, reticulation and wall plans for safe pours.
• Collaborate with plant operators to ensure high-quality material production and data reporting.
• Conduct inspections and oversee placement of paste, CHF, and rockfill.
• Maintain QA/QC programs and ensure compliance with Fill Management Plans and risk assessments.
• Contribute to budget and schedule planning and drive continuous improvement.

About the Opportunity

• Collaborating with plant operators to ensure high-quality material production and accurate data reporting.
• Conducting inspections and overseeing the placement of paste, CHF, and rockfill.
• Maintaining QA/QC programs and ensuring compliance with Fill Management Plans and risk assessments.
• Driving continuous improvement and contributing to budget and schedule planning.

About You

Our ideal candidate will be a Mining Engineer with experience in underground environments and exposure to paste or CHF backfill systems.

Other key skills, experience, and qualifications:

• A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge of backfilling, CHF pastefill, or rockfill operations.
• Proficiency in mining software packages.
• A current C-class manual driver’s licence.
