Megaport seeks a Software Engineer to own and evolve core systems, focusing on Java and Spring/MVC with a shift toward Kotlin/Spring Boot. You will build scalable APIs, reduce technical debt, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality software.

You will contribute in an agile environment, embracing remote-first work and a culture that values customers and continuous learning. Experience with networking is a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software development experience in Java and OO design.
• Experience building services and tools for web applications.
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting.
• Data modeling with SQL and relational databases; Hibernate preferred.
• Good collaboration and communication skills.
• Ability to reason logically and present technical information clearly.
• Bonus: Network experience (IP routing, MPLS).
• Bonus: Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Bonus: Experience with Kotlin, JavaScript, Python.

Your Role

You’re a software engineer who is well respected by your peers, and collaborates and communicates effectively. You are familiar with Spring and enjoy taking ownership over a product. That means, paying down technical debt, thinking of the users (internal and external), and solving interesting technical problems. Our main code base is in Java / Spring MVC but we’re actively moving to Kotlin / Spring Boot. We’re a tech company, our product is in the technical space and we need great engineers to make a great product! Interest in advanced networking is a bonus!

What You’ll Be Doing

• As a Software Engineer at Megaport, you'll contribute to the evolution of our core business systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs for seamless customer integration. Ensure API scalability, security, and adherence to best practices.

  • Proactively manage and reduce technical debt while optimising system architecture, ensuring stability and performance.

  • Actively participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.

  • Applying and promoting best practices and design patterns within our engineering teams.

  • Drive the complete lifecycle of small feature development, from initial concept and design through to implementation and successful delivery.

  • Participate actively in Megaport's agile development process and drive continuous improvement within the engineering team.

What We Are Looking For

• 3+ years of software development experience in Java - OO design and associated design patterns.

• Experience in building services and tools in the context of web applications.

• Accomplished in problem solving and troubleshooting.

• Strong data modelling skills with experience working with relational databases using SQL, ideally Hibernate.

• Demonstrated collaboration and communication skills.

• An ability to reason logically, question appropriately and present technical information clearly and concisely.

• Bonus: Experience with network (IP routing, MPLS).

• Bonus: Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP etc).

• Bonus: Experience with Kotlin, JavaScript, Python.
