Qantas Airways Limited seeks a Back-End Developer to architect and deliver scalable backend systems at the Adelaide Product Innovation Centre. You will lead architecture and delivery while coding to ensure high-quality software, with emphasis on reliability, performance and data privacy.

The role requires 3+ years in software engineering, experience with Java/Spring Boot, cloud-native AWS, and containerization with Docker/Kubernetes. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Adelaide, SA.

Join Qantas in our brand-new Product Innovation Centre located in Adelaide will contribute to consumer needs by architecting and delivering robust, scalable systems that power seamless digital experiences, ensuring fast, secure, and reliable services that support evolving customer expectations.

As a Back-End Developer, you'll be responsible for guiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit. A hands-on, highly skilled software developer with the experience to dive into code to deliver high quality, well-designed software. You will share responsibility for the quality of the software being built, including but not limited to; achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You'll have:
  • 3+ years in a hands-on Software Engineering role
  • Experience building high-traffic backend applications
  • Working experience with back-end technologies (i.e Java, Spring / Spring Boot) and databases (e.g PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc)
  • Understanding of cloud-native development on platforms such as AWS, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations
  • Containerisation technology concepts, such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and automated testing practices
  • Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Datadog, or similar) to support production systems
  • A real passion for quality, clean code and continuous improvement
  • An understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
  • Highly dedicated ethos - expected to take very real accountability for the work you're doing
  • A test and learn mindset with curiosity, collaboration and care
  • Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Edge Delivery Services desirable
