Centre for Higher Education Studies seeks an IT/AV Support Technician to maintain and support the school's IT and audio-visual systems. You will work under the IT Manager alongside two teammates, handling day-to-day tasks and escalations as needed.
The role requires relevant AV/IT qualifications or experience, strong organisational skills and a service-focused approach. Full-time, Monday to Friday, based in Melbourne.
This role is a unique opportunity to join a high-performing team that supports the various state-wide programs offered by CHES.
Reporting to the IT Manager, and working alongside two other members of the IT Team, the role is responsible for the day-to-day support, maintenance and installation of the school's IT and audio-visual systems.
The technician must be able to work independently on routine tasks, manage competing priorities and escalate complex issues to the IT Manager. The role suits someone with relevant AV and IT qualifications and/or experience, strong organisational skills and a service-focused approach.
The responsibilities below describe the major duties of the role. Other duties of a similar nature and level may be required. Duties may change over time due to new legislation, technology or policy, and training will be provided where needed.
Attendance requirement for this position is fulltime, Monday to Friday.
Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee's position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
The Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES) commenced programs in 2023 as a purpose-built, co-educational school supporting high-achieving and high-ability students to extend their learning beyond mainstream programs.
Students attend CHES part-time while remaining enrolled at government secondary schools across Victoria. We offer specialist VCE subjects, Year 10 Enrichment Electives and access to first-year university courses through our university partnerships. Students also participate in seminars, masterclasses and other enrichment opportunities.
CHES also leads professional learning for teachers across Victoria on meeting the needs of high-ability students.
Education Support staff, including the IT team, play an important role in the smooth operation of CHES and in creating a welcoming, supportive and efficient environment for students, staff and visitors. Our work involves close collaboration with students' base schools, university partners and other educational organisations.
Our values--Reach, Connect, Understand and Think Ahead--underpin a collegial, collaborative workplace. We value the expertise and contribution of Education Support staff and provide induction, professional learning and ongoing support.
Flexible working arrangements may be available through discussion and negotiation with the principal, depending on the requirements of the position.
