Job summary

Apprenticeships Are Us in Geelong, VIC, invites a Junior 1st Year Light Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice to join a busy automotive workshop. You’ll gain hands-on experience while completing the AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology and build a long-term career in the automotive industry.

Work alongside qualified technicians, earn weekly wages under an apprenticeship, and access dedicated mentoring and support from your Apprenticeship Employment Manager as you progress toward

Apprenticeships Are Us is seeking a motivated Junior 1st Year Light Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice to join an established automotive workshop in Geelong, VIC.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is genuinely passionate about cars and wants to build a long-term career in the automotive industry. You'll work alongside qualified technicians, gain hands‑on workshop experience and develop the practical skills needed to become a qualified Light Vehicle Mechanic.

You'll earn while you learn and complete your AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, developing skills across vehicle servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and mechanical repairs.

We're looking for someone who already has a strong interest in automotive and has taken steps to develop their knowledge. Ideally, you'll have completed a Certificate II in Automotive or have gained practical experience working on cars at home or through personal projects.

What You'll Learn

Working alongside qualified technicians, you'll develop hands‑on skills in:

  • Vehicle servicing and scheduled maintenance.

  • Mechanical and electrical fault diagnosis.

  • Using diagnostic equipment and workshop technology.

  • Brake, steering and suspension maintenance and repairs.

  • Engine and mechanical component repairs.

  • Removing and replacing worn or damaged components.

  • Vehicle inspections, testing and safety checks.

  • Reading and following manufacturer specifications and repair procedures.

  • Safe and correct use of hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment.

  • Maintaining professional workshop and safety standards.

As your apprenticeship progresses, you'll take on more complex tasks and greater responsibility under the guidance of qualified technicians.

Who We're Looking For

This opportunity would suit a junior candidate who is serious about starting a career in the automotive industry and can demonstrate a genuine interest in working with cars.

To be considered, you'll need:

  • A genuine passion for cars and the automotive industry.

  • A current driver's licence.

  • Your own reliable transport to get to and from work.

  • A hands‑on and mechanically minded approach.

  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn.

  • Reliability and punctuality.

  • Good attention to detail.

  • The ability to listen, take direction and apply feedback.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a workshop team.

Automotive Experience

While you don't need to have worked professionally in an automotive workshop before, the host is ideally looking for someone who has already demonstrated their interest in the trade.

It would be highly regarded if you have:

  • Completed or commenced a Certificate II in Automotive, or

  • Regularly worked on cars at home, helped with mechanical work or completed your own automotive projects.

We're interested in candidates who can show that automotive is more than just a passing interest and that they're committed to developing their skills through an apprenticeship.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents to be eligible for this apprenticeship.
