Job summary

CNFiTech Engineering in Sydney is seeking an Automation Engineer to design, program, test, commission, and support PLC and SCADA systems on large industrial and utility projects. The role requires regular site attendance, FAT/SAT, and collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and process engineers to deliver reliable automation solutions.

A strong background in Siemens, Schneider Electric, and SCADA platforms is preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience designing, building, testing, and commissioning PLC/SCADA on industrial and utility projects.
• Proficiency with Siemens S7 (Step 7) and TIA Portal.
• Experience with Schneider Electric M580 PLC.
• Experience with ClearSCADA or GeoSCADA.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Engineering degree recognised by Engineers Australia in EE/CS/Mechatronics or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, test, commission, and support PLC and SCADA systems.
• Manage automation and control projects from design through to commissioning and handover.
• Develop control system designs, specifications, requirements, and technical documentation.
• Analyse plant and equipment performance to identify improvements.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, process engineers, contractors, and clients to resolve issues.
• Plan FAT, SAT, testing, commissioning, and site activities.
• Define equipment, instrumentation, network, and control system requirements.
• Ensure safety, quality, and client standards.

About You

Experience designing, building, testing, and commissioning PLC and SCADA systems on industrial and utility projects, together with strong technical and project delivery capabilities, with:

• Demonstrated experience with Siemens S7 platforms, including Step 7 and TIA Portal.
• Experience configuring Schneider Electric M580 PLC platforms.
• Experience with ClearSCADA / GeoSCADA systems.
• Sound understanding of industrial electrical systems and the ability to read and interpret electrical drawings.
• Bachelor's degree recognised by Engineers Australia in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.

Highly Regarded

• Experience delivering PLC and SCADA solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Familiarity with Sydney Water automation standards, CASE tools, and project delivery frameworks.
• Experience supporting asset optimisation, operational performance improvements, and lifecycle management of industrial automation systems.
• Exposure to plant design, process control systems, industrial communications networks, and infrastructure projects.
