Job summary

Brisbane City Council is offering eight full-time Auto Manufacturing Apprenticeships within its Public Transport Services team. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to develop a range of practical manufacturing, fabrication and vehicle repair skills while working on Council's bus fleet.

No previous industry experience is required. You will receive on-the-job training and mentoring while completing formal study towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Qualifications

• A genuine interest in vehicles, manufacturing and how things are built.
• Enjoyment of hands-on, practical work.
• Motivation and willingness to learn.
• Good problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and safe work practices.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Reliability and commitment to completing an apprenticeship.

Responsibilities

• Using engineering drawings to repair and manufacture vehicle components.
• Manufacturing and fitting sheet metal panels.
• Working with fibreglass components and moulds.
• Rebuilding and retrimming vehicle seating.
• Learning MIG, TIG and oxy welding techniques.
• Operating metalworking equipment such as guillotines and brake presses.
• Repairing vehicle bodywork and fitting components.
