Job summary

Set Up My Offshore (SUMO) is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our offshore talent network for Australian projects. This remote role supports Australian businesses across residential, commercial, civil works and more.

You will review drawings, perform take-offs and prepare BOQs, BOMs, and cost plans using Bluebeam, CostX, and PlanSwift, while coordinating with builders and suppliers to ensure accurate, timely submissions.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying, or a related role.
• Experience on Australian construction projects is highly desirable.
• Strong ability to interpret drawings and technical specifications.
• Proficient with estimating software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, plans, specs, and tender documents.
• Perform accurate take-offs, measurements, and quantity calculations.
• Prepare BOQs, BOMs, and cost estimates.
• Provide tender submissions and cost breakdowns.
• Identify cost risks and opportunities for optimization.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to clarify requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your area of specialisation, your responsibilities may include:

• Reviewing and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and tender documents.
• Conducting accurate material take-offs, measurements, and quantity calculations.
• Preparing detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Calculating material, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Requesting and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Preparing tender submissions, pricing schedules, and cost breakdowns.
• Identifying discrepancies, potential cost risks, and opportunities for cost optimisation.
• Assisting with variations, cost planning, and project budget monitoring.
• Coordinating with builders, project managers, suppliers, and other stakeholders to clarify project requirements.
• Ensuring estimates are accurate, well-documented, and submitted within agreed timelines.

Requirements

• Proven experience in construction estimating, quantity surveying, or a related role.
• Experience working on Australian construction projects is highly desirable.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of construction materials, labour costs, measurement methods, and estimating principles.
• Experience preparing take-offs, cost estimates, BOQs, or tender submissions.
• Proficiency in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
