Job summary

Hipcamp Australia seeks a Senior Government & Community Relations Manager to lead the company’s public affairs across Australia, focusing on state and local government to enable Host growth and retention. You will own strategy, build trusted relationships with councils, planning staff, and regulators, and navigate planning processes to influence outcomes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years’ experience in government relations, public policy, politics, advocacy or public affairs with a strong track record of influencing state/local government outcomes in Australia.
• Deep understanding of Australian local government planning processes, including planning schemes and community consultation.
• Proven ability to influence decision-makers and navigate complex environments with strong political judgement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with planners, councillors, industry leaders and executives.

Responsibilities

• Own Hipcamp’s government affairs strategy across Australia, identifying regulatory risks and opportunities with highest impact on Host growth and retention.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with councillors, mayors, planning staff, tourism officials, and other stakeholders.
• Navigate council planning systems and public processes to influence outcomes and public consultations.
• Develop strategies to prevent, mitigate, and resolve regulatory threats to avoid marketplace disruption.
• Represent Hipcamp in public discourse and media on land use, tourism, outdoor recreation, and regional development.
