The University of Melbourne is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to build and enhance AURIN’s cloud-first platforms for urban research. You will develop skills across modern languages, data systems and cloud tools while collaborating with experts, contributing to scalable data infrastructure for researchers and policymakers.

Qualifications

• Entry-level experience across the software development lifecycle.
• Foundational skills in Java, Python and JavaScript for application development.
• Understanding of web servers and databases such as Apache/Nginx, MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Ability to work in small, collaborative teams and meet deadlines.
• Experience with git-based workflows, CI/CD, agile delivery and containerised deployments.
• Motivation to up-skill through mentoring and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to designing, developing, testing and maintaining software components powering AURIN’s platforms.
• Implement integrations and RESTful services connecting data, analytics tools and visualisation systems.
• Collaborate in a squad with senior engineers to solve technical challenges and deliver sprint objectives.
• Apply version control, CI/CD and containerisation workflows to enable reliable deployments.
• Participate in documentation, support and continuous improvement activities.
