The University of Melbourne’s Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network (AURIN) invites applications for an Associate Software Engineer in Parkville, Victoria. You will help build AURIN’s cloud-first platforms and develop skills across Java, Python, JavaScript, and modern data systems while collaborating with researchers and engineers.

Qualifications

• Entry-level experience across the software development lifecycle.
• Foundational skills in Java, Python and JavaScript for application development.
• Knowledge of web servers and databases (Apache/Nginx, MongoDB, PostgreSQL).
• Ability to work in small collaborative teams and meet deadlines.
• Experience with git-based workflows, CI/CD and containerised deployments.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to designing, developing, testing and maintaining software components powering AURIN’s platforms.
• Implement integrations and RESTful services connecting data, analytical tools and visualization for researchers and policymakers.
• Work within a squad, pairing with senior engineers to meet sprint objectives.
• Apply best-practice version control, CI/CD and containerisation workflows for deployments.
• Participate in documentation, support, and continuous improvement activities to keep systems usable and secure.
