The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) is seeking an Associate Midwife Unit Manager to lead the Women's Assessment Unit at Lyell McEwin Hospital in Adelaide's northern suburbs. This role balances hands-on midwifery care with operational leadership, shaping safe, woman-centred care across the unit.

You will provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to the midwifery and nursing team, coordinate triage and assessment, contribute to quality improvement, and step in as Midwife

Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Clinical expertise in a Women's Health or maternity setting, including triage.
  • Ability to lead, support and develop a team in a complex health environment.
  • Understanding of SA Health and NALHN quality and safety frameworks.

  • Coordinate safe, woman-centred care across the unit, including triage and escalation.

What You'll Be Leading

As Associate Midwife Unit Manager, you'll work alongside the Midwife Unit Manager to guide daily operations and maintain high standards of midwifery practice within the Women's Assessment Unit. Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the coordination of safe, woman-centred care across the unit, including triage, assessment, and escalation processes
  • Providing clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to the midwifery and nursing team
  • Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, accreditation activities, and unit-level policy review
  • Acting in the Midwife Unit Manager role as required, ensuring continuity of operational leadership

What You'll Bring

  • Current registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in a Women's Health or maternity setting, including experience in assessment and triage
  • Proven ability to lead, support, and develop a team in a complex health environment
  • Sound understanding of quality and safety frameworks relevant to SA Health and NALHN standards

To be eligible for this position, you must be registered or eligible for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate OR be registered or eligible for registration as a Nurse and Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and who holds, or who is eligible to hold, a current practicing certificate.

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.
