Job summary

Allens is seeking a talented Environment & Planning lawyer to join our Sydney-based E&P team within the Real Estate and Development Group. You will advise on E&P approvals, transactions, development projects, and participate in disputes across Australia.

You will have exposure to multiple Partners, build your niche, and enjoy flexible hybrid working arrangements and extensive learning opportunities through our Career Deal and Linklaters alliance.

Qualifications

  • Advise on biodiversity conservation, heritage and environmental protection legislation.
  • Negotiate voluntary planning agreements at State and local government levels.

Your role

This is your opportunity to join our growing Environment and Planning (E&P) team in Sydney. Our E&P team sits within our Real Estate and Development Group and is an integral part of Allens' leading Projects, Real Estate & Development practice. Our lawyers work with our colleagues in a range of practice groups in Sydney as well as across jurisdictions, giving our lawyers an opportunity to work on major projects throughout Australia. As a member of our E&P Team, you will work in a collaborative environment advising and supporting our clients with E&P approvals, E&P support for transactions and development projects, as well as acting on a range of disputes. At Allens, our structure means you'll get exposure to a number of different Partners within your practice group and a wide variety of work. We encourage our lawyers to find their niche and specialise in areas they're interested in, while building a strong foundation across their field.

  • Provide strategic planning and environmental approval advice for projects across a range of market sectors including residential, retail, commercial, industrial and logistics, aged care, mining, transport, energy and renewables.
  • Appear in the Land and Environment Court in appeals, land acquisition proceedings and prosecutions.
  • Advise on contaminated land issues and environmental licensing.
  • Advise on planning and associated regulatory approvals.
  • Advise on biodiversity conservation, heritage and environmental protection legislation.
  • Negotiate voluntary planning agreements at both State and local government levels.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity. At Allens we have a hybrid working structure, typically 60% in the office and 40% from home. We would be happy to discuss any other flexible working arrangements that best support you.

About you
  • Experience working in an Environment & Planning team, ideally at a well-regarded top tier firm, international firm, Australian firm or boutique firm.
  • Some experience in Land and Environment Court litigation.
  • A willingness to build an understanding of clients and develop effective working relationships.
  • An ability to effectively manage matters.
  • A willingness to participate in business development activities, such as pitch documents, firm-wide pursuits, article writing, attending industry events and hosting seminars.
  • A desire and ability to grow, both as an Environment & Planning Lawyer and leader.
  • A strong team ethic.
  • An ability to establish a professional profile and internal networks.
