Assistant Operations Manager - Temporary

NSW Greyhound Breeders, Owners, Trainers Association – Gosford NSW


The Assistant Operations Manager is required to ensure the effective, efficient and compliant operation of the Maitland and Gosford venues as well as developing strong working relationships with the Operations Manager, Venue staff, NSW GBOTA management along with the teams from GRNSW & GWIC, other GRNSW Venue Operation Managers, GBOTA Board members, local business and the community. The incumbent is responsible for the development and management of the administrative and financial operations of the club, which includes facilities management and the development and growth of the club in line with the GBOTA strategic focus. With strong organisational and business management skills, the Assistant Maitland/Gosford Operations Manager will ensure the smooth running of the venues' administrative tasks, including, but not limited to, the day to day running of the office, accurate financial management and reporting, race meetings, trial sessions following relevant policies. Racing Safety, the creation of an elite racing surface and associated infrastructure is key to the effective running of the racing operations at both Maitland and Gosford. This is a key component area that the incumbent will require a high level of oversight and management of track staff in conjunction with the NSW GBOTA CIO and GRNSW Tracks and Facilities Dept.


Key responsibilities

Manage and co-ordinate racing operations ensuring the running of weekly race meetings at both Maitland and Gosford in line with the Rules of Greyhound Racing New South Wales and the race-day procedural guidelines


Coordinate trial sessions to ensure participants are adequately catered for and the Club receives maximum return for the outlay on staff and equipment costs


Effectively market and promote the venues and sport of greyhound racing to ensure maximum support from the people of Maitland, Gosford and surrounding districts


Oversee the maintenance and general upkeep of the Clubs' tracks, equipment, buildings and surrounds to ensure the continuation of trouble-free racing in a clean positive environment


Achieve financial scheduling expenditures in liaison with the Gosford/Maitland Operations Manager; analysing variances, initiating corrective actions


Work with Gosford/Maitland Operations Manager, GBOTA CEO, COO and CIO to prepare a monthly report on operations


Ensure that Venue operations are maintained at a high standard and the office operations and procedures are carried out to best practice standards


Ensure WHS guidelines and regulations are adhered to by all employees, race day patrons and any other entity using club facilities


Develop and implement the Venue Specific strategic plan ensuring long term development and growth within the GBOTA Network


Manage all staff and on-site contractors across Gosford and Maitland venues


About you

Successful applicants must hold, or be able to obtain and maintain, a current licence with the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC) as a condition of appointment


NSW or equivalent driver's licence, with a willingness and ability to travel regularly between the Maitland and Gosford venues


5 years experience in senior Management, Business Administration


Tertiary qualification in Management, Business Administration


Experience with Sporting Events Management


Experience in managing community partnerships


Experience in dealing with local government, councils


Demonstrated ability to establish and manage budgets and business finances


Effective negotiation, influencing and communication skills


Sound computer skills including competent use in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word and Financial Programs
