Job summary

Horse & Jockey Hotel in Queensland seeks an hands-on Assistant Manager to lead busy shifts, mentor a vibrant hospitality crew, and partner with venue leaders to deliver top-notch guest experiences. The role focuses on people management, cross-team collaboration, and role-modeling excellent service.

You will work on the floor with a collaborative group of Assistant Managers, drive peak-period operations, and uphold safety and vibe across bar, bistro and gaming areas.

Qualifications

• Hands-on hospitality leadership experience or supervising teams.
• Strong people skills and ability to mentor staff.
• Experience in fast-paced venue operations (bar, bistro or gaming) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate peak shifts with Assistant Managers.
• Mentor and support a dynamic hospitality team on the floor.
• Collaborate with venue leaders to ensure high service standards.
• Handle operational hiccups quickly to maintain great guest experience.
• Represent the pub when the senior leadership is away.

If you are a hands-on manager who thrives in the center of the action, the Horse & Jockey Hotel offers a dynamic, high-tempo stage for your leadership skills. From busy weekend family dining and major live sports broadcasts to high-touch service in our gaming lounge, no two days here are ever the same.

You won't be working in isolation, our venue is powered by a collaborative group of Assistant Managers working together on the floor. You’ll partner directly with fellow venue leaders to run peak shifts, mentor our energetic hospitality crew, coordinate cross-departmental operations, and deliver an outstanding experience for our regular guests and local community.

A day in the life of an Assistant Manager:

• Get to know the locals so well they think you’re part of the crew
• Support the Publican to keep the pub running smoothly, safely, and with a great vibe
• Learn the ropes of being a Publican while leading a team of absolute hospo legends
• Handle hiccups before they turn into headaches
• Bring the energy, the service, and the smiles every single shift

Inherent requirements:

This is a hands-on role that involves manual handling and lifting as part of regular duties (e.g. moving stock, kegs, and deliveries). Applicants must have the ability to perform physical tasks safely and efficiently.

About you:

• You’ve been around the bar, bistro, or gaming room block, and maybe already done some supervising
• You’ve learned from great managers and now you’re ready to step up
• You’ve got the confidence, pride, and people skills to be the face of the pub when the boss is away
• You’ve got a current RSA/RSG, RMLV and Approved Managers Licenceas per state requirements
