Job summary

Corrections Victoria is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to join the Complex Classification Unit in Ravenhall, overseeing assessment, classification and sentence management for complex cases across Victoria's correctional system.

You will work with a highly specialised team, travel to correctional facilities, and provide expert advice to inform placement decisions while balancing community safety with rehabilitation and operational needs.

Qualifications

• Experience assessing and managing high-risk or complex individuals.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing detailed reports and risk assessments.
• Experience working in custodial environments or with people in custody (highly regarded).
• Strong situational awareness, sound judgement and the ability to identify and respond to emerging risks.
• Knowledge of Corrections Victoria policies, procedures and relevant legislation, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
• Desirable: tertiary qualifications or experience in criminology, criminal justice or mental health/psychology.

Responsibilities

• Assess people in custody to determine appropriate classification and placement based on risk and individual needs.
• Review placements within Management and High Security Units, providing expert advice to inform placement and management decisions.
• Monitor and review complex individuals accommodated in mainstream and protection settings to ensure ongoing suitability.
• Prepare high-quality reports, assessments and briefing materials to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Build strong working relationships with correctional facilities and key stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective sentence management outcomes.
