Job summary

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District is seeking compassionate Assistants in Nursing for casual roles at Blue Mountains Hospital in Katoomba. You will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assisting with daily living activities and reporting changes in patient condition.

Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (Assisting in nursing work in acute care), or currently enrolled in second or third year of an undergraduate Bachelor of Nursing/Midwifery program.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide safe, compassionate, respectful, and person-centred care that supports patient dignity, privacy, and cultural diversity.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate appropriately with patients, families, carers, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team, following direction from registered nurses or midwives and contributing positively to team outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise, prioritise and complete delegated tasks effectively while maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify changes in a patient's condition, recognise potential risks, and elevate concerns appropriately within your scope of practice and organisational guidelines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of contributing to continuous improvement in healthcare settings.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge required for workers to participate in safe work practices to ensure their own health and safety, and that of others.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.

  • Observe and report any changes in a patient's condition to the nursing team.

We are seeking compassionate and motivated Assistants in Nursing to join our team on a casual basis. In this rewarding role, you will provide direct patient care within a healthcare environment while working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

As an Assistant in Nursing, you will support patients with activities of daily living, helping to maintain their comfort, dignity and wellbeing. Your responsibilities will include assisting with personal care, hygiene, mobility and other non-clinical care activities, while observing and reporting any changes in a patient's condition to the nursing team. You will play an important role in supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care and contributing to a positive patient experience.
