Job summary

J&T Hort in the Narrabri region is seeking a hands-on Assistant Farm Manager to support day-to-day citrus operations and lead a small farm team. You will work closely with the Farm Manager to coordinate activities, monitor crop health and ensure safe, efficient work in the field.

Ideal candidates will have experience in citrus or horticulture, practical field skills, and a focus on safety, irrigation, and productivity.

Job description

J&T Hort is seeking a motivated Assistant Farm Manager to join our growing citrus orchard operations in the Narrabri region.

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys working in the field, leading a team and being actively involved in the day-to-day management of a productive citrus orchard.

Working closely with the Farm Manager, you will play an important role in coordinating orchard operations, supporting crop management and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning and coordination of day-to-day orchard activities
• Supervising and supporting farm employees and contractors
• Monitoring crop health, tree development and orchard presentation
• Assisting with irrigation, fertigation and water management
• Supporting pest, disease and weed management programs
• Coordinating pruning, spraying, nutrition and other seasonal activities
• Monitoring machinery, equipment and general farm infrastructure
• Maintaining accurate farm records and completing operational reporting
• Supporting harvest preparation and seasonal workforce coordination
• Ensuring work is carried out safely and in line with company procedures
• Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency and orchard performance
• Stepping into additional management responsibilities when required

About You

We are looking for someone who is practical, reliable and genuinely enjoys working in horticulture.

• Previous experience in citrus or other horticulture or agricultural
• Experience supervising or leading a farm team
• A strong understanding of orchard operations and crop management
• Good knowledge of irrigation and general farm practices
• A strong focus on safety and attention to detail
• Good communication and people skills
• A hands-on approach and willingness to get involved in the field
• A current driver's license
• Chemical application experience and/or relevant chemical accreditation would be highly regarded
