Assistant Director, Workforce Capability Development
Full-time Temporary with a Possibility of Permanency

Details: Do you want to help build the future capability of Digital Canberra and contribute to a capable, inclusive and future-ready public service workforce? Digital Canberra delivers technology, digital, data and cyber security services for the ACT Government. We are seeking a strategic and motivated Assistant Director, Workforce Capability Development to join our People and Capability Branch and help shape workforce capability priorities across the Directorate.

The Assistant Director, Workforce Capability Development plays a key role in strengthening organisational and workforce capability across Digital Canberra. Working closely with managers and subject matter experts, you will contribute to capability planning, core learning, learning governance, capability development, workforce capability reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.

This role balances strategic workforce capability development with operational delivery and offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing function focused on strengthening workforce readiness, learning culture and organisational capability across Digital Canberra. In the short term, the role may also provide support to leadership capability and inclusion priorities as the broader capability function continues to mature. Eligibility/Other Requirements: We are looking for someone who is passionate about workforce capability and continuous learning. The successful applicant will bring experience in learning and development, organisational development or workforce capability, together with strong stakeholder engagement, analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills. Experience with digital learning, HR platforms and reporting systems, such as Aticulate360, SAP SuccessFactors, Power BI or similar tools will be highly regarded.

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent experience in organisational development, learning and development, workforce capability, human resources, education, psychology, business, public administration or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • A train-the-trainer, facilitation, assessment, eLearning or instructional design qualification would also be well regarded.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 30 June 2027 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill identical or similar vacancies within Digital Canberra (or ACTPS) over the next 12 months. This position is designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job‑sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
