Job summary

Skills Canberra, part of the ACT Public Service, invites applications for an Assistant Director, Australian Apprenticeships Liaison in Canberra. The role focuses on strengthening relationships with employers and stakeholders to improve apprenticeship outcomes within the ACT Apprenticeships system.

You will educate employers to resolve issues early, assist apprentices to stay on track, and operate within an ABW environment. This is a temporary position from 25 November 2026 to 24 May 2027.

Qualifications

• Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.
• An Australian-issued driver license to operate a vehicle within the ACT.
• Experience in assurance-focused inspection/visitation programs or in the Australian Apprenticeships sector will be favourably considered.

As the Assistant Director, Australian Apprenticeships Liaison, your primary focus will be working directly with employers and relevant stakeholders to support high-quality apprenticeship and traineeship arrangements. You will:

• Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with employers and key stakeholders in the ACT Australian Apprenticeships system
• Work alongside and educate employers to address any issues early and achieve positive outcomes for both the business and the apprentice or trainee.
• Assist apprentices and trainees to stay on track, particularly where additional support may be needed.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

• An Australian-issued driver license to operate a vehicle within the ACT.

Experience in any of the following areas will be favourably considered:

• Assurance-focused inspection/visitation programs aimed at providing information, assistance and support and resolving complex complaints or issues.
• Experience working in the Australia Apprenticeships sector and/or a sound understanding of related legislation and policy.

Note: This is a temporary position available 25 November 2026 until 24 May 2027. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.A merit pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill similar vacancies over the next 12 months. This position is in an activity-based working (ABW) environment. Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
