Job summary

Lawson Elliott Recruitment – Sydney CBD NSW is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a growing finance team. The role is hands-on, reporting to the Finance Manager, and offers mentoring as the business expands.

Requirements include 3–4 years in accounts or assistant accounting, a degree, and ongoing CPA/CA studies. You will manage AP, payroll support, bank reconciliations and month-end tasks across multiple entities.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years of experience in an accounts or assistant accountant role.
• Degree qualified; pursuing CPA or CA (or planning to).

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable including invoice coding, supplier set-up and payment runs.
• Complete bank reconciliations across multiple entities and follow up variances.
• Reconcile supplier statements monthly and resolve vendor queries.
• Manage staff card program and reimbursements per policy.
• Support payroll by checking timesheets, maintaining employee records and reconciliations.
• Assist rollout of a new payroll platform including data checks and parallel pay runs.
• Prepare journals, work papers and schedules for month-end and year-end closes.
• Assist with annual budget, management reporting and finance process improvements.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Accountant to join this growing energetic finance team, reporting directly to the Finance Manager. It’s a hands‑on role with real variety and mentoring to help you grow as the business expands. Your responsibilities will include:

• Oversee accounts payable, including invoice coding, supplier set‑up and preparing payment runs for approval
• Complete bank reconciliations across multiple entities and follow up any variances promptly
• Reconcile supplier statements monthly and resolve vendor queries
• Manage the staff card program and reimbursements in line with company policy
• Support payroll by checking timesheets, maintaining employee records and assisting with reconciliations
• Contribute to the rollout of a new payroll platform, including data checks and parallel pay runs
• Prepare journals, work papers and schedules to support month-end and year-end close
• Assist with the annual budget, management reporting and finance process improvements

To be considered for this role, you will have 3–4 years’ experience in an accounts or assistant accountant role. You’ll be degree qualified and either studying, or planning to study, towards your CPA or CA. You’re accurate, organised and comfortable working across multiple entities and deadlines, and you’re keen to learn and grow within a business.
