Job summary

Fowler Homes is seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract commencing in October 2026, with leave cover within our growing business. Based in Sydney, this role offers exposure across a broad range of accounting functions while supporting the Finance Manager.

While initially fixed-term, there is potential for extension up to 14 months and a potential permanent opportunity at term end.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end processes including journal prep and GL reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation calculations.
• Process debtor claims, receipts, collections and rebates.
• Process supplier and subcontractor invoices with coding and matching docs.
• Prepare payment runs for review and approval.
• Support monthly management reporting and schedules.
• Assist with BAS and payroll tax workpapers and GST reconciliations.
• Perform data entry and general finance admin duties.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team on a 12-month fixed-term contract commencing in October 2026, providing leave cover within our growing business. This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure across a broad range of accounting functions while working closely with the Finance Manager and supporting critical finance operations.

While this is initially a fixed-term contract, there is potential for the contract to be extended for up to 14 months, with the possibility of a permanent opportunity at the conclusion of the term.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include:

Preparing bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Assisting with month-end processes, including journal preparation and general ledger reconciliations.

Maintaining the fixed asset register, including depreciation calculations and asset disposals.

Processing debtor claims, receipts, collections, and rebates.

Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices, including coding and matching documentation.

Preparing payment runs for review and approval.

Supporting monthly management reporting and preparing supporting schedules.

Assisting with BAS and payroll tax workpapers, including GST reconciliations.

Performing data entry, record maintenance, filing, and other finance administration duties.

Providing ad hoc financial analysis and support as required.

What We Are Looking For

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, Finance Officer, or similar accounting role.

Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of accounting principles.

Excellent reconciliation and month-end processing experience.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Experience using accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, or Databuild.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working within a team.

A relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
